ColorLink recommends the use of circular polarization when viewing stereoscopic projection. This allows the viewer to tilt their head and change their viewing angle without introducing cross-talk/ghosting. It is critical that the circular polarization filters used in front of the projector are matched to the eyewear. ColorLink manufactures matching sets of products to achieve optimum performance. The use of ColorLink circular eyewear is recommended.

single projector

Single-Projector
ALPS™ is an achromatic linear polarization switch that alternates the left and right eye imagery projected to the viewer. The device changes the polarization of the projected image so that the viewer receives alternating left and right eye information in a sequential manner. When viewed through corresponding filters in the eyewear the viewer sees the stereoscopic image. This device is typically placed right after the projection lens. Additionally, ALPS can be modified to enable circular polarization.

Since the projector must be enabled to use such a device, customers should contact ColorLink for design specifications and recommendations.

Dual-Projectors
With two projectors, one projector displays the left eye information and the other displays the right eye information. Circular polarization filters with opposite polarization rotations are mounted in front of the projectors.

ColorLink manufactures high-performance Achromatic Circular Polarization filters. These filters consist of a neutral linear polarizer combined with a broadband, achromatic retardation plate. By combining achromatic circular polarization filters at the projector with CP-A glasses, the projectors do not need to be color balanced.
